... international legal structures are destroyed; all independent countries are threatened, and general freedom, equal rights, and truthful communication no longer matter: whoever has a population bombed and then wants to market the devastated area as an attractive beach destination, whoever calls a country that has been invaded and is defending itself against terrorist rocket attacks and land grabs responsible for the war, justifies oppression and war and makes lies an ever-present reality. 

If only narrow self-interest and power count, there is no shared responsibility: existential threats to humanity, such as the climate crisis, the unchecked development of artificial intelligence, and the danger of world war resulting from an arms race, are ignored; humanity has no chance of coordinating effectively.
