Social processes unfold in an open-ended manner – through complex interplay of interaction logics, actions, and existing levels of civility. Therefore, they cannot be reliably predicted or determined.
In contrast, historical studies describe or analyze events that have already occurred; in the history of civilization, the focus is on levels of civility.
