Discussion: Climate policy self-deception?
Despite all previous climate policies, global greenhouse gas emissions have risen continuously since the 1950s, reaching a new significant peak in 2024 – a disaster for the (global) climate policy pursued with enormous effort and great fanfare (see the current WMO report).
In contrast, the public perception is that climate policy is being taken quite effectively, indeed that climate policy is on track - see the corresponding press release from the head of the Federal Environment Agency, Dirk Messner, and the former Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (Robert Habeck).
Are these critical findings shared by climate protection experts and climate policymakers? If so, what conclusions should be drawn from them?
